Thursday and Friday Rehearsals at the Sheraton in North Charleston

Teachers of honor choir members must register for the conference or risk being asked not to participate in the future. During rehearsals, someone from each school must be in the rehearsal room in case a student is ill and parents need to be contacted.

Enter the Convention Center parking lot ( Tony Way - name of drive to enter.).

There is a $5 fee for parking. Park and enter into the Convention Center under the canopy marked "Ballroom".

Look for Honor Choir teachers holding signs with sections labeled on them. Please find your section and remain with those teachers. Parents please return to the Ballroom entrance and wait to enter. Do not leave anything with your child nametags, music, water bottle, coats etc. Following the performance students will exit the Ballroom by sections parents you should exit at that time to locate your child. This is an effort to keep the traffic flow moving. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

 

Guest Clinician: Tom T. Shelton, Jr.

Tom T. Shelton, Jr. is a native of Greensboro, N.C. and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with both a Bachelor of Music Education Degree and Master of Music in Choral Conducting. He is the Associate Director of the Music Ministry for Children and Youth at First Presbyterian Church, Greensboro.

Prior to working at First Presbyterian Church, Shelton taught middle school choral music in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County for eighteen years. During this time he was selected "Teacher of the Year" for both Atkins Middle School and Kernersville Middle School, and in 1999 was presented the North Carolina Middle School Music "Teacher of the Year" award by the NC Music Educators Association.

Tom Shelton is active in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), where he currently serves as the President for the Southern Division.  He has served as National Repertoire and Standards Chair for Junior High/Middle School Choirs (2007-2009), and President for North Carolina ACDA (2005-2007).

An active clinician, Tom has conducted the ACDA Central Division Junior High Honor Choir (Indianapolis), as well as Elementary, Middle, and High School Festivals and Honor Choirs in Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and  Virginia. In 2007, he traveled to Hong Kong to conduct a piece he was commissioned to write for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Hong Kong International School.
 
Tom Shelton has compositions published by Colla Voce Music, Heritage Music Press, Hinshaw Music Company, and Santa Barbara Music Press. He is listed in "Who's Who among America's Teachers (2003-2004 edition) as well as "Who's Who in America" (2005-2006 edition).  Mr. Shelton works with the Greensboro Youth Chorus organization as conductor of the Chorale. www.tomsheltonmusic.com
 

 

SCEHC Uniform

The S.C. Elementary Honor Choir Uniform will consist of the choir golf shirt, black pants for boys, black pants or skirts for girls, black hose if the girls wear a skirt, and either navy blue or black dress shoes. Please no tennis shoes.  The choir golf shirts are 100% white cotton pique polo. They are designed with a special Honor Choir logo in black and gold. Water bottles and pencils with a logo will be given to each student.

Plaques and Medallions

Order your Honor Choir commemorative plaques and/or medallions to recognize your school and students participating in the South Carolina Elementary Honor Choir. 

The 7x9 cherry finish plaque is double plated with a brass engraved top plate with your school's name, district, and date. 

The 2 ½ inch medallion has a 2 inch insert engraved with the group logo, date, and location and is on a black/gold neck ribbon.
