Hi everyone! Greetings from your SCMEA Elementary
Division President!
I hope that you've had a wonderful summer and are having
a smooth transition into a new school year. I can
definitely say that it's been hopping on my end! Your
Elementary Division Board has been busy gearing up for
another great year in SCMEA. Linda Keene
(President-Elect who will be taking over in June - YAY!),
Mark Hodges (Immediate Past-President) and I attended
our state SCMEA Executive Board meeting last week and
have much to share with you at our Fall Workshop and
Business Meeting
on Saturday, September 11th. I hope that you will
make plans to join us!
Fall Workshop To Be Held In New Location!

On September 11th
Master Teacher Barbara Rich will be presenting an
engaging workshop on introducing opera to your students
entitled "Opera and the Hamburger Connection!" She will
share with you an exciting lesson plan that incorporates
several famous opera themes. I am excited because this
is a topic we've not covered in recent memory. We will
follow the same format as usual but please note that we
have changed our venue this year. Due to the
Carolina/Georgia game being at noon on that Saturday,
downtown traffic will be a nightmare. Anyone who has
ever attended a Carolina football game understands. SO,
we've made the decision to switch to a venue away from
the football traffic. Many thanks to Pam Hair and
Killian Elementary School for agreeing to host our
workshop. Located near the
Village at Sandhills in Northeast Columbia,
Killian Elementary is convenient to several nice
restaurants and shops in the Village. Please make plans
to stop there before heading home that day.
