State Conference Poster Session
Columbia, South Carolina
February 3–5, 2022
Deadline for Submissions – December 13, 2021

The South Carolina Music Educators Association will sponsor a research poster session on Saturday, February 5th, 2022 at 10AM during the SCMEA State In-service Conference, February 3–5, 2022. The conference is held at the Columbia Conference Center, Columbia, SC. We are accepting submissions of completed and in-progress studies conducted by undergraduate and graduate students, college and university faculty, and practicing teachers in public or private schools. This poster session is open to papers involving any aspect of scholarly research in music, including those that are philosophical, theoretical, or historical in nature, as well as reports that are qualitative or quantitative in design. The poster session will be an in-person event; those who would like to participate and present for the poster session virtually should discuss this option with the session chair.

Proposals will be read by two or more qualified external reviewers who will be blind to applicant identity. As such, the accepted papers will have passed a refereed criterion. Notification of acceptance will occur by December 22nd. Reviewers’ feedback to applicants will be provided.

To create more opportunities for graduate students to present research, the two graduate students with the highest combined score from the external reviewers will have the opportunity to give a spoken presentation at the conference. This spoken research presentation sessions will begin on Saturday, February 5th, at 8:00AM.  Winners will be awarded a 20-minute time slot for their spoken presentation on the SCMEA schedule. Please know that we do not provide honoraria or expense reimbursement for those accepted to give research presentations.

Proposals should be in the form of a one-page abstract and should summarize in prose the following elements that are applicable to your study: (a) purpose/problem; (b) sample; (c) methodology; (d) results/ analysis; and (e) discussion/implications. A reference list is optional and can be submitted separately. Please know that ALL paradigms, methodologies, and approaches to research in our field are welcome and encouraged. Reports of research-in-progress are also welcome.

Proposals should be submitted online via this link (https://uofsc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5cNybNaw5Nf31fT). The deadline for proposals is Friday, December 13th, 2021.
